Every Israeli can tell you that a chamsin is a dusty desert wind. I assumed until this weekend that chamsin was exclusively a summer phenomenon. Not so. The chamsin meant that we were unable to see all the way to the Mediterranean Sea as we descended to Modi'in on Friday. It also meant that from the back side of HUC, we were not able to see past the Old City all the way to Mount Scopus and the Mount of Olives at the far end of the city. For people with respiratory problems, the dust of a chamsin can be especially irritating. For us, thankfully, it was just another Israel experience.
